The Saskatoon Retriever Club is excited and proud to have been selected to host the 2005 National Amateur Retriever Championship, to be held from July 18-23, 2005.
ABOUT THE CLUB
The Saskatoon Retriever Club was established in the late 1940's as a Club for dog enthusiasts to train their retrievers for hunting. In 1952 the Club held their first recognized Field trial, and has held a trial every year since that date. The Club hosted the National Open Retriever Championship Stake in 1962, 1973 and 1985 and hosted the National Amateur Retriever Championship Stake in 1993 and 2001.
In 1975 the Club purchased 80 acres of land, and in 1985 purchased an additional 150 acres, on which the present Clubhouse stands. The property has been developed and improved on a regular basis with trees, driving trails, running mounds, spits and islands. Water levels are managed through a series of canals, resulting in good, clean swimming water in all of our ponds even through years of drought in the prairies. Our property is recognized as one of the best training and trialing grounds in North America and will provide the judges with an impressive variety of sites to devise interesting and challenging tests.
The Saskatoon Retriever Club has a very solid membership base of 60 families, most of which are active participants in CKC retriever events including field trials and hunt tests. Our members are all looking forward to hosting the 2005 National Amateur Retriever Championship and we are confident that we will host a very successful event.
LOCATION
The trial will be held at the Saskatoon Retriever Club property, located 35 km (22 miles) Southeast of Saskatoon, near the town of Bradwell. Access is from Highway 16 (the Yellowhead Hwy between Yorkton and Saskatoon) or from Highway 11 (the highway between Regina and Saskatoon). Saskatoon is located approximately in the center of the province and is the largest city in the province, with many hotels, restaurants, art museums, golf courses and entertainment facilities. Car rentals are available from all major companies at the Saskatoon Airport.
There are two hotels/motels and bed and breakfast within a 15 minute drive of the Club grounds. Competitors and spectators are encouraged to book early due to upcoming events in the area. Numerous other accommodations are available in the City of Saskatoon.
