Reviewing Against The Tide by Angus Kinnear

by Troy Brooks

- Angus Kinnear is the son-in-law of T. Austin Sparks. They both rejected God's Word regarding the Apostles appointing Elders of a locality. Anyone who has read the Bible by the Spirit would not question this.

3. Revolution

When Miss Yu came to Foochow after many years to preach, Watchman Nee did not first attend because he was "disillusioned by Christianity's failure as a vital force in his own home" (p. 43). This is interesting because it shows Nee eventually gave his life to Christ despite such adversity like one who is against the tide. His mother's attitude changed, positively, which convinced Nee to investigate further what Dora Yu was saying. And so began Nee's new life (age 18), quite the opposite of the communist movement in China by Mao Tse-tung and the works of Carl Marx.

4. Dedication

Initially, Nee found the Scriptures exceedingly difficult to grasp because the Scriptures deal with one's conscience, intuition and communion with God. Just as much as are these lacking, so is the lack in ability to understand what the Word of God is saying. If there is no consecration, there is no dedication, and where there is no dedication, there can be no true understanding. "Present yourselves to God as men who had been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of unrighteousness" (Rom. 6.13). Once Nee did this, "he did not waste a moment."
