A list of my favorite free software is listed here. Apart from Opera (adware) there are no strings attached to any of these programs. All versions are for Windows and all should work in Windows 98 and above.
Ad-aware 5.83 is a completely free adware/spyware removal program. Adware and spyware can send personal information from your computer to a company, often without you knowing. This program is
highly recommended, and something nobody should do without.
Editpad Lite 4.5.3 can be summed up as a suped-up Notepad. It can open an unlimited number of files of any size, and it uses the 'tab' system to switch between files, so you don't get overloaded with windows (or resources). Very fast and an excellent replacement for Notepad.
Kazaalite 2 is the spyware-free version of the file-searching program 'Kazaa Media Desktop'. It operates on the massive FastTrack P2P network, and lets you download files of all sorts (music, videos, programs etc.) from multiple users. A great program for finding that obscure song.
Opera 6.05 may be the fastest browser available (compared to IE6 and Mozilla/Netscape). Standards-compliant, and completely bloatfree (4mb w/o Java). Its downside is that it's adware. However, with its speedy tabbed browsing it's definitely worth checking out.
Trillian 0.74 is perfect for those of us who have contacts in all sorts of different messengers. It supports communication with AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!
andcan connect to IRC. This 'ultimate' chat program is also completely free-form skinnable, very stylish. With no strings attached, it's a must.
Winamp 2.81 (yes 2.81, not 3) is the fastest and tidiest player around. Very fast, with support for externals plugins and skins, it's the only player you'll need. Winamp 3 is also an option, but it takes longer to load, and apart from being free-form skinnable and a host of bloating features, it isn't that revolutionary.
