Beej's review: This is one of
the first Sailor Moon CDs I purchased (along with Vocal Coll. 2 and Stars
Best Song Coll.) and I still enjoy it to this day. In retrospect,
Son May made some unusual choices while puting this CD together.
It seemed as if they grabbed a little of everything from each season, leaving
some tracks behind in favour of others. As I said, I am still pleased
with the end result, but in my opinion, a better name for this CD would
be the "Sailor Moon Vocal Sampler". ^_^
-
Watashitachi ni Naritakute
- the first ending theme for SuperS. A slow pop ballad that has some
nice vocals and a nice melody. Not really one of my favourites, but
it's still a nice romantic song.
-
Moonlight Densetsu (DALI)
- OK, you've all heard this one. It's the opening for the first four
Sailor Moon seasons. However, in the third season (S), it is sung
by Moon Lips instead of DALI. For those of you who have not heard
it, it's a fast, orchestral J-pop song, with a catchy melody that hooks
the viewer. There's some great bass runs and excellent use of strings,
and the action on the tom-toms is infectious.
-
Fire Soul Love - I listen
to this and "Paula Abdul" instantly springs to mind. This is a very
funky track, in the style of Paula Abdul and other singers (reminds me
of "Straight Up"). Lots of synth instrumentation (strings, brass,
samples, and bass), plus an electric guitar playing a few licks here and
there. Wicked song, though it's a little strange. BTW, see
if you can catch ALL the English spoken . . .
-
Starlight ni Kiss Shite
- A most excellent track! A very upbeat, enjoyable song, with stellar
vocals and infectious melody. For being upbeat, though, it's not
"light pop", but more mysterious. It uses the same instruments as
other songs on this album, but it passes up a strings or brass section
in favour of a set of synth bells.
-
Route Venus - a fast
pop song, with an urgent, driving pulse. A bare-bones instrumentation
(driven guitar, bass, piano, drums), actually adds to this feeling.
The melody and vocals are great.
-
Otome no Policy - the
sole ending theme for the R season. Quite upbeat and catchy, it's
lighter fare than the other ending themes. Driving bass and drums
back up the catchy melody, and a distorted guitar has a few licks and solos
here and there. It's J-Pop, but not orchestral J-Pop.
-
Wasureru Tameni Koi wo Shinaide
- Another Sailor Jupiter song, and this time, it's her R single!
^_^ This is another excellent track that starts out with pizzicato
violins, then the beat comes in, and it becomes an absolutely infectious
J-pop song. Emi-san's vocals are sweet and smooth, the melody is
fun, and I get a good feeling all over while listening to it. ^_^
-
Watashitachi ni Naritakute - Original
Karaoke Version - hey, it's the same as track 1, but with no
vocals. Feel free to amaze/annoy your friends and sing along!
^_^
-
Moonlight Destiny - a
beautiful ballad from the end of the S movie. It has a beautiful
melody and soft vocals, over a tenuto strings section, piano, and soft
drums. Very romantic - if you've sat through the credit of the S
Movie, you know the feelings I'm talking about.
-
Tuxedo Mirage - the ending
theme for the third season (S) and probably my most favourite song from
the series. About the same speed as "Watashitachi ni Naritakute",
and the vocals by Peach Hips are excellent. The melody is romantic,
but the song doesn't turn into a plodding ballad.
-
Overture: Fantasy (Love
is Energy, Moonlight Densetsu, Princess Moon) - a choir piece taken from
Gasshou Kumikyoku. For some reason, I can't seem to get into it.
Don't get me wrong - the choir is very talented (I'm going to regret that
remark . . . -_-), and the arrangement is quite good. However, I
still prefer the real songs to these arrangements.
-
Finale: Desire (Moon
Revenge, Tuxedo Mirage, Because We Are Born in the Same World) - another
choir piece taken from Gasshou Kumikyoku. I feel much the same way
about this piece as about "Overture: Fantasy". Although I did not
notice at the time, it does have an excerpt from Onaji Hoshi ni Umareta
Futari Dakara, from the "PC Engine
CD Single". I still prefer the original song though . . .
