ABOUT US

THOMPSON VALLEY POTTERS' GUILD
was created in October 1969 with only seven members. For many years the group met in each other's homes, sharing techniques, talking about how to improve the standards of ceramics, and working to raise awareness of ceramics in the Kamloops area.

Now, 39 years later, there are 40 members who meet monthly to talk about many aspects of pottery. Members use a variety of clay - stoneware, porcelain, and earthenware to produce functional and one-of-a-kind pieces. We also use many different firing techniques - electric, gas, raku, salt, woodfire, and crystalline.
MEMBERSHIP

FEES

Our annual rates are $30, or $50 for couples or studios.

MEETINGS
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00. We meet eight times a year, with breaks in the summer and at Christmas. Each meeting  we opens with a little business, then moves onto our program. This can be anything from a hands-on demonstration, to a slide show, to a group discussion on an aspect of pottery making. The program is informative, and provides a time to ask questions and discuss technical problems.

WORKSHOPS
We hold one or two workshops every year. We have featured potters from Canada and the US including Vincent Massey, Darrell Hancock, Keith Rice-Jones, Paul Davis from Australia, Linda Doherty, Judy Weeden, Susan Le Poidevin, Bob Kingsmill and more. Please contact the guild if you are not a member, but are interested in coming to an event.

LIBRARY
TVPG has a library covering various aspects of pottery. Our librarian brings books and videos to each meeting, which is when you can check-out and return them.

SALES
Sales are held annually in November and April (Christmas and Spring). Generally we want to give sales spaces to those who are involved in the guild. We also want to give our members the opportunity to participate in quality events, so only juried potters may enter sales.

GUILD GOALS
The following is an excerpt from our constitution....

The objectives of the TVPG shall be:
  • To bring together potters and ceramists in the Thompson Valley area in BC in a group for their mutual advantage.

  • To endeavor to improve the standards of ceramic work in the Thompson Valley by education of the membership and the public.

  • To promote exhibitions of members’ work at such places as may be decided upon.

  • To endeavor to expand the choice of ceramic books in the local library and to bring in films or slides on a loan basis on ceramic subjects for the use of members.

  • To hold meetings and provide lecturers and/or workshops each month or as otherwise agreed upon.

  • To affiliate or collaborate with other groups of potters or other craftsmen in Canada, the United States or elsewhere as may be decided upon.

  • To carry on such other activities as may be decided upon from time to time, of an artistic, educational or social character
