Passage to Juneau

Jonathan Raban

from Rob Turner:

"Jonathan Raban seems to be famous for his writings about travel, but has also spent time as a literature instructor at several universities.  My kind of author.  Raban leaves Seattle for Juneau on his 35 foot sailboat just as his marriage has broken up.  His descriptions of sailing, of the coast, of its history, and its people is spellbinding.

It is definitely a book I will read again.  In fact, we plan to sail to Alaska ourselves one day.  It will definitely be one of the books I will take with me.  In fact, I will be looking for other books by the same author"

The Curve of Time  Muriel Wylie Blanchet Memoir of a mother who annually boated in the Desolation Sound area with her five children in the 1920's and 30's. Reads like a contemporary journal.  One of the best selling books ever published in BC.
