Trauma and Abuse
I have treated men and women who have survived sexual abuse, domestic abuse, political terror, and/or torture. Other clients are survivors of natural disasters, horrific accidents or criminal acts.
Some suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Sometimes, survivors of abuse feel contaminated by and responsible for the abuse inflicted on them. Often memories, concentration, sleeping patterns and feeling safe in the world are all adversely impacted by trauma.
I have found that therapy requires a gentle, caring approach at a pace comfortable to the client. I encourage my clients to recount their stories and mourn their experiences in a safe environment. Through validation and attentiveness, my goal is to help restore a sense of safety and well-being.
