Nov. 8, 1958: THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK album of "SOUTH PACIFIC" goes to #1 on the British album chart for 110 weeks (70 of them consecutive including all of 1959).
Nov. 8, 1964: CBU FM 105.7 begins daily regular programming separate from CBU AM. It’s programming consists of mainly recorded classical music and BBC programs. CBU FM station history.
Nov. 8, 1965: "Days of Our Lives" debuts on NBC and is still on the air after 44 years.
Nov. 8, 1971: CKIQ 1150 Kelowna signed on the air. The station was owned and operated by Bob Hall and Walter Gray.
Nov. 8, 1972: HBO: Home Box Office signs on the air to a cable system in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Its first broadcast is a NY Rangers/ Vancouver Canucks game from Madison Square Gardens then the movie "Sometimes a Great Notion."
Nov. 8, 1975: KLYN FM 106.5 Lynden increases its power to 100,000 watts so it can be heard throughout the Lower Mainland. Its signal is so strong it can be heard north to Courtenay, Whistler and into the Fraser Canyon. Its format is an easy listening format with ethnic programs from 7:30 pm-midnight M-F and Saturdays from 6 pm-midnight. Christian music programs were heard on Sundays. It was on the air M-Sat. 6:30 am-midnight and Sundays 8 am-midnight.

Nov. 7:As the Olympic torch parades throughout Canada, it is time to look back to July, 1976 as Montreal hosts the Olympics. For the first time, there was all-day coverage. CBC has the broadcast rights and CTV was allowed a 1-hour highlight package each evening. CBC Radio also had all-day coverage. ABC's coverage was prime-time only and the Opening Ceremonies. 3 PM Nov. 6-3 PM Nov. 13: On July 1, 1987 the world's first all-sports radio station launched as THE FAN in New York City. Since then, all-sports radio stations have popped up all over North America. On Nov. 5, CFUN 1410 became Vancouver's second all-sports station. Remember MOJO? CFUN is now TEAM 1410 and the folks at TEAM 1040 say that TEAM 1410 will complement their service.
