July 4, 1970: American Top 40 debuted with host Casey Kasem. The first #1 song was "Mama Told Me Not to Come" by Three Dog Night.
July 4, 1972: WCBS FM New York began its legendary oldies format. It was one of the first radio stations to do so. The first song played was "Donna the Prima Donna" by Dion at 6 am.
July 4, 2007: The U.S. digital TV channel BOOMERANG aired all 166 episodes of the Flintstones beginning on this date.
July 5, 1957: "Banana Boat Song" (Day-O) by Harry Belafonte goes to #1 for 13 weeks in Germany.
July 5, 1962: Germany begins publishing a weekly album chart. The first #1 album was the MUSICAL SOUNDTRACK from "MY FAIR LADY" which stayed at #1 for 96 weeks dropping in and out the position until the end of 1965.
July 5, 1996: Long-time "Front Page Challenge" moderator Fred Davis passed away in Toronto. (74)
