NEW CKWX Studios Largest in Canada

From the Vancouver Sun Jan. 21, 1941

Vancouver will have the largest and most modern radio studios in Canada when the Western Broadcasters Co. Ltd., operators of CKWX complete construction in the Georgian Building, 543 Seymour Street.   Announcement was made today that the studios will be completed about March 15, when the studios and offices of CKWX will move from Hotel Georgia, where they have taken an active part in the development of radio in Western Canada.  It is also announced that the Western Broadcasting Company has affiliated with the Taylor, Pearson, Carson group of stations in Canada, who will henceforth manage and operate CKWX.  M.V. Chsnut manager of CKOC, Hamilton, has been loaned to CKWX to give them the benefit of the Taylor, Pearson and carson plan of operation and institute the new program policy and arrange for construction of the new studios.

Mr. Chesnut will be in Vancouver during reorganization plans, but will return to his post at CKOC.  New manager of CKWX will be F.M. Squires from CJCS, Stratford, Ont. and Norman Botterill of CJCA, Edmonton, will be assistant manager in charge of program production.  R.M. Dagg remains as commercial manager, with Arthur Holstead retaining the presidency of the Western Broadcasting Company.  It is emphasized by Mr. Chesnut that there will be no changes in the present staff of CKWX, all being retained in their present conditions.    New studios and offices will occupy the entire top floor of the Georgian Building, with four studios, two control rooms, and a stage and auditoriom serving 250 persons.  There will be a large reception room, artists' lounge rehearsal rooms and clients' rooms with a private view into the auditorium.  Total floor space will be 9000 square feet.

Latest development of sound engineers will be employed, making the voice as near perfect as possible.  New material is being used in construction of the studios of a design just coming to the fore.   New equipment will include apparatus for making records, enabling announcers and artists to study voice, etc.  CKWX power was increased to 1000 watts last year and the transmitter now in operation is one of the most modern on the continent.
