A note from the President of Northwest Grotto Association
The pre-convention in Yakama was a fun and successful event. It was especially gratifying to me as two Vice Presidents were installed.
Prior to the convention we installed 2 Vice Presidents. I was rather disappointed to note the absence of representation by several of the Grottoes of the Northwest. Hopefully the convention in Spokane will have an increased number of attendees from the missing Grottoes in Yakima. The members of Sadir Khan are working hard to make the convention in placeCitySpokane a huge success. Join us and see!!
Sadir Khan was well represented with five prophets and their ladies having made the trip from Spokane. There were three Monarchs. in attendance, Gene Dawson - Chelminar, Bob Worthington - Gul Reazee, and Dale Cooper - Sadir Khan. Also present at the event was Past Grand Master of Washington - Wayne Smith.
It was really a pleasure to see all in attendance pitch in and help Chelminar with their terrific oyster feed and the clean-up afterwards.
A great display of cooperation was exhibited at the pre-convention. I wish to thank all present for the manner in which the entire program was handled. My sincere thanks go out especially to Past President Prophet, Ray Amos and his lovely wife Lola for all their hard work.
David Ferguson, President NWGA

A note from the membership chairman of Sadir Khan Grotto, placeCitySpokane StateWashington
In the past six months Sadir Khan has initiated seven new prophets by initiation and two as Prophets at Sight by PGM Bob Black..
The seven new members are: Jeff Duty, Wes Miller, Joe DiLulo, Harold Rothgeb, David Gillespie, Richard Hines, and Steve Fisher. The two as Prophets at Sight are Grand Master of Washington Douglas Tucker and his father, Past Grand Master Harold Tucker, who was Grand Master in 1988-1989. We thank Bob Black for making the trip from Vancouver BC to Spokane to perform that great service. A total of nine new prophets are now members of Sadir Khan Grotto since November, 2008. Can any Grotto in the Northwest match that?
David Ferguson, membership chairman, Sadir Khan Grotto

A FEW WORDS FROM SADIR KHAN MONARCH
Sadir Khan Grotto is proud of the list of Enchanted Lantern donors that appeared in the last Grotto magazine.
On April 15th we had a social night and Prophet at Sight Ceremony. Past Grand Master, Harold Tucker 88-89 and his son Douglas Tucker the present Grand Master 08-09 were made Prophets at Sight by PGM Robert Black. We think this might be the first for the Grottoes of North America. Word and pictures have been sent to Supreme Council office for inclusion in the next issue of the Magazine we hope. Our event was attended by 60 members and guests who were treated to a prime rib dinner.
Sadir Khan was represented at Pre-Convention by 6 Prophets and ladies. We give a bin "Thank you" to the members and ladies of Chelminar for all their work and hospitality. What a wonderful group. The food was great and I don't know how anyone could come any closer on the amount of oysters to order. Great job guys.
See you all at the NWGA Grotto Convention here in Spokane in July. Get those registrations in ASAP.
Monarch Dale Cooper, Sadir Khan

Greetings Prophets From Gul Reazee
We at Gul Reazee Grotto have been trying to keep busy and are looking for ways to increase our membership. We have one new application to present at our next stated and will also having a meeting before our stated to talk about membership and how we can get new members. We had the pleasure of having our District Deputy to the Grand Monarch, PM Ed Taychuk, at our May Stated and his message was well received. His
comments to us goes right along with our thoughts on gaining new members and any new or additional information about how we can accomplish this task is greatly appreciated.
> I am looking forward to our Northwest Grotto Association Convention in July where some more good ideas about how we can do better will be discussed. It is great to hear how the other Grotto's are doing and how they accomplish some of the tasks before them, because most of the other Grotto's can learn from their remarks and ideas. It is also nice to see some friends that we don't see that often.
Gul Reazee Grotto has just received word from Doernbecher Hospital that they have scheduled another Grotto Day for us. We have had the pleasure for the last four years to spend the day in the Dental Clinic with the staff and the patients and parents and to talk to them about the Dentistry Program for Special Needs Kids. We also had the pleasure last fall to spend two days at the C.P. convention where we had many care givers asking many questions about the programs. Hope to see a good turnout in Spokane.

SECRETARIES CORNER
Correction in the Pre-Convention minutes should read that 4 Grottos were present, with no representatives from Van Zor or Hassan.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I hope that it is evident that only 3 Grottos had enough gumption to answer the request for news of the realm. The request for information was sent to 3 officers of each Grotto and all who attended Pre-Convention was reminded by the President. I think at convention we should have a definite discussion about the lack of interest in telling our storey. If you do not communicate thru this publication and no physical interaction between the Grottos how do you expect to have anyone visit you or any one else. It was your insistence and promise that you would support the Newsletter with news and what was going in your Grotto in the future, so much for that.
Here at Gul Reazee, thru the cooperation of the Humanitarian Foundation and the Shrine we have kicked off the joint Cleft, Lip Palette program, receiving applications for the dental work then the children will have their palette repaired at the Shrine Hospital. Here at the Portland Shrine Hospital there are more than 500 children on the waiting list from all over the Northwest for this surgery.
I know there is only 4 or 5 Prophets attending Supreme convention in Peoria in June. I hope more than that will attend Northwest Grotto Convention in Spokane in July and the usual 3 or 4 will attend CANGA in October, pretty pathetic participation all the way around. For all of you non-participants not going to these conventions you really miss out on the camaraderie, special information and great fellowship that is only available at these get togethers.
