JANUARY 2008
MONARCH'S REPORT
Greetings Prophets:
I trust that everyone had a pleasant and enjoyable time over the Christmas and New Year holidays and that we all survived the turkey and trimmings.
As we start off the New Year with Van Zor Grotto I must first of all thank the Officers of last year and all those who made a contribution throughout the year to make it not only successful but pleasant. I am very pleased with the Officers we have to serve you this year and I hope that we can be as successful in our endeavours as the Officers in the past have been. However, I must remind you that it takes all of us to make the year as success. It is and must be a team effort. Anything short of this will result in failure. I know that we all hold the Grotto best at heart and because of this I feel we are on the road to success and happiness.
The goal that I would like to set for us this year is not only peace and harmony but happiness in what ever we do. I feel that if we have more of a social time with each other rather than just meetings we will enjoy Grotto more and eventually see a bigger turnout for meetings as well as the social events. You can make this work if we work as a team in this goal.
One of the things we will be discussing at our next meeting is a Champagne Brunch. We must decide if we want it on either Sunday the 20th of April or Sunday the 25th of May. Check your calendars to see what date is best for you. Another item we will discuss is the possibility of a Golf Tournament on the 17th of July when we host the North West Grotto Convention.
In your last bulletin there was a calendar of events for the year which will be updated periodically as we go along. Hopefully this will be beneficial to us in our planning for social events. We also have an entertainment committee being chaired by IPM Harry Keith and his lady Daphne. They are in the process of planning events so if there is anything you would like to see for a social event, please contact them and let them know.
In closing I would like to wish all the best for the New Year with happiness, success and good health.
Yours in good fellowship
Robert McSween, Monarch
CHIEF JUSTICE REPORT
Greetings Prophets:
I hope you enjoyed the holiday season!
I would like to congratulate Prophet Bob McSween for being elected as our Monarch for 2008. I am sure he will do an excellent job with all of his experience in leadership. He is a Past Grand Master as well as the Worthy Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star in Chilliwack. With Bob as Monarch I know we will have a great year for the Grotto! Bob has some great ideas for the coming year.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank Prophet Grant Thompson for all of his hard work and effort he put forth for the Remembrance Day ceremony, as well as all of the work Grant and his lady Margaret put in to the Jingle Bell Brunch. I would like to thank Immediate Past Monarch Harry Keith and his lady Daphne for all the efforts they put forth to make 2007 a success. You both did a wonderful job.
I would like to thank Prophet Secretary Bob Black for the magnificent job he did as Installing Officer during our installation in December.
The coming months will be busy as there are many events to look forward to. The Monarch's Ball will be held on March 1st at the Abercorn Inn in Richmond. More information and tickets will be available soon. The Cloverdale Races are on March 16th this year, tickets are $30. Please contact Prophet Joe Cassidy to reserve your seats. I hope you will come out and feed the horses this year! Remember you can invite prospective Grotto members to both the Monarch's Ball and the Horse Races; let's see if we can get some new members into Van Zor this year.

From your editor:
Happy New Year to one and all. I hope everyone has survived the festivities unscathed and things have got back to somewhat normal
Our Master of Ceremonies reports that he & Ginny are off Waikiki and will be returning Jan 9/08 and wishes every one a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The turn-out at the Jingle bell Lunch was great, those that said they would be there were. I must apologize to our Monarch and his Lady. There was some confusion over the time of day for this event ***** that should not have happened *****, sorry Bob.
A great big thanks to Harry & Daphne for all the hard work that they did putting on the Boxing Day open house. These things don't just happen, there is a lot of cooking and planning long before the event
There was a nice turn-out at our Sunday coffee thing at Iron Wood shopping center, it's getting to be an event in it's self.
Don't forget the board meeting at the usual place on the 29th of Jan and the Initiation at the regular Feb meeting everyone is doing there memory work so it should be a good night.
Yours truly is some what under the weather with a pinched nerve in my neck, which is causing a lot of pain. I was able to get into the saw-bones to day to get some pain killers, so it has been a real pain in the ….neck
