The WPX Contest last weekend (March 28, 2010) was a fun event and well attended. The collaboration between Surrey and Coquitlam clubs enable us to put 3 high power stations on the air with Surrey contributing 2 portable towers and Coquitlam contributing the site, a TH7 beam, an X740 yagi, R8 Vertical, numerous wire antennas and radios and amps. Icom kindly donated a 7700 for the event and many enjoyed giving it a test ride. SARC was well represented by members VE7GRK, VE7SAM, VE7AEK, VE7IO and VE7XS.
The event was run EMCOMM style with many of the stations running on generated power. I've attached the event summary submitted to the contest authorities this afternoon. Many thanks to all who participated and let's plan to do this again!

Once again this contest proved to be a lot of fun with activity on all
bands, surprisingly even on 10m. The Coquitlam and Surrey Amateur
radio clubs collaborated to use the special events call VG7G
commemorating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The contest was primarily run EMCOMM style using generators and
portable towers with 3 high power stations on the air using 2 yagis
an R8 and a variety of wire antennas. The event was also used as an
opportunity to introduce a number of newcomers to contesting including
some teens and "not so teens". Copious quantities of steak were
sacrificed to the BBQ gods on Friday and Saturday night with tons
of junk food consumed in between! A good time was had by all!
Many thanks to Icom Canada for the loan of a nice new IC7700 for the
event.
