Telus Donates Tower/Trailer to Surrey ARC !

In January 2010, Surrey ARC was the lucky recipient of a portable tower, trailer and generator, donated by the Fleet Management Group at Telus. The crank-up tower was made by US Towers and has been installed on a dual-axle trailer for transport, along with an 8 kw propane generator. Once the stabilizer legs are extended and the trailer leveled, the tower can be raised with its electric winch to 107 ft within 5 minutes.

The Telus tower was put to good use during the weekend of Feb. 6, 2010 at the Surrey EOC (No. 1 Firehall), where members of SARC and SEPARS made around 150 contacts during the BC QSO party using the 2010 Olympics Special Event callsign VG7G. The tower will remain available at the EOC for other events until the end of March. The antenna in the photos is a HyGain TH7 tri-bander for 10-15-20 m owned by John VA7XB.
