At the April 2nd, 2008 SARC meeting, Dino VE7XDT gave about 20 members of the Surrey Club some coaching on how to improve CW skills. He started with a review of the history of CW, the first digital mode, which was invented in the nineteenth century.
He described methods for increasing your CW speed, emphasizing the value of having a good quality paddle. He also demonstrated the Logikey K-5 Keyer which can be built for a few dollars if you purchase the kit and assemble it yourself.
The K-5 can be programmed to do a variety of routine sending tasks which you can use in contest settings to participate at speeds far exceeding your normal ability to send or copy. A number of members expressed interest in building their own K-5 keyer as a club project.
Many thanks to Dino for his enthusiastic and informative
presentation.
