On Oct 20th, 07 SARC participated in JOTA. After some difficulty in locating a suitable venue, the PREOC Centre in Green Timbers Park stepped up to the plate and offered their facilities for this, we wish to express thanks to James Longley VE7JMS, and Mike Andrews VE7MPA for their hospitality in allowing us the use of the training room and related equipment.
There were 16th scouts attending, representing 9th Surdel, 2nd Central Green Timbers and 11th East Whalley-Guildford troops, plus six troop leaders providing supervisory and chaperone cover !!!!

The HF bands were not the best so DX contacts were established thru IRLP and the scouts QSO'd with a couple US stations.
Through presentations and table demonstrations and power point displays, the scouts were introduced to the phonetic alphabeth, APRS, IRLP, Echolink, UHF simplex and repeater operations, and transmitter hunting presentations were kept all very basic , simple and down to earth so that they may grasp the general concepts.
A fun day was had by all, besides quite enjoying their chocolate cookies, I hope they got something out of the exercise, and it is hoped that thru SARC's sponsorship of events such as these, the wonders of the HAM hobby will be introduced to a younger audience and that they be stimulated to learn more.

Ably representing the club were ham's Dave VE7DWG, Dave VE7OCQ, Bill VE7ISV, Dave G VE7ICA, Richard VE7IMH, Mike VE7AT, Kathy VE7KTL, Robert VE7CZV and Anton VE7SSD. Thanks are expressed to all for their time and interest in sharing with the enthusiastic scouts, either thru a presentation or supervising in the radio room.
