Our 3-tiered Rate Structure

Video In Studios receives funding from various arts councils and government agencies to subsidize the creation of works of art by individuals and artist groups in video, film, audio, new media, and other time-based media. Video In Studios must also generate a substantial portion of its funding from self-generated revenue. As such, Video In Studios' three-tiered rate structure is determined by our primary mandate to support individual artists and group projects. The rate to be charged is based on the type of project, not the status of a Producer Member. To determine the applicable rate, members must first consult with the front desk.

Artist Rate

This rate generally applies to a Producer Member's personal work in video, film, computer-based media or audio. The Artist Rate is intended to encourage experimentation with content, form or technology in any genre. Generally, Video In Studios requires that the artist/member retain full copyright and complete editorial control over a project to qualify for the Artist Rate. As an example, Producer Members with projects of a personal and/or cultural nature which are self-financed or funded by arts councils usually qualify for this rate.

Independent/Organizational Rate

This rate generally applies to any member working on an independent or cultural production where another party may retain partial or complete copyright or editorial control, where profit from the production is not reasonable expected, and where content is not of a primary artistic nature. As an example, works produced by nonprofit organizations, cultural groups, and independent producers are billed at this rate. Public Service Announcements and broadcast works of a cultural or educational nature are in this category.

Commercial Rate

This rate applies to Producer Members who wish to bring commercial work to Video In Studios. Commercial work is defined as a work of non-cultural and/or promotional nature, where the member retains no copyright on the final product. The Commercial Rate is determined by the content of the work, not the remuneration (or lack thereof). As an example, corporate and industrial informational, instructional, or promotional videos are charged by the Commercial Rate.
