Chief Factor's Daughter - spine

Chief Factor: In the Hudson's Bay Company fur-trade monopoly, the title of Chief Factor was the highest rank given to commissioned officers, who were responsible for a major trading post and its surrounding district.

Margaret Work, daughter of Chief Factor John Work, was born into a remarkable family of the Hudson's Bay Company elite. Her British-Metis heritage, an advantage in the fur trade, is now a target for snobbery and racism as the 1858 gold rush brings changing attitudes and loyalties. Unwed at 24, Margaret worries she is fated to a life of spinsterhood as her strict and protective father forbids her and her sisters to mix with the rough-and-tumble newcomers in Fort Victoria. With hopes of finding love and romance, Margaret and her sisters find their way to the parties and balls hosted by dashing naval officers and Royal Engineers.

Based on real people and events, The Chief Factor's Daughter is an elegant recreation that takes readers inside a now-vanished society and illuminates the aspirations and dreams of Margaret Work, a recognizable and thoroughly appealing heroine.
