Wayne E. Stilling, Q.C. - Mediator, Collaborative Law LawyerWayne has been in private practice since 1975 with a practice emphasis on family and civil litigation. In 1979 (the year of the child), he was appointed as a Family Advocate by the Attorney General. Since then, he has represented many children in contested court proceedings in all levels of the courts in BC. In many cases, one or more government agencies were involved as parties. Wayne believes in constructing solutions rather than litigating. He believes in focusing on the needs of children and mutually beneficial outcomes rather than winning or losing. He believes this is the future of dispute resolution, especially in family or children’s rights contexts. In 2002 Wayne committed himself to the principles of mediation and collaborative law, referring contested cases to litigation lawyers. Wayne received his Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree and his law degree from the University of Manitoba. He obtained his qualification as a Family Law mediator in 1985 and gradually concentrated and restricted his practice to mediation and collaborative law. He has taken advanced mediation training courses and regularly attends conferences to keep current with this rapidly developing area of law. Wayne was appointed a Queens Counsel in 1990. Wayne has participated extensively in public and professional service, including serving as a bencher of the Law Society of BC. He has contributed to Continuing Legal Education, served on boards such as the Surrey Foundation, the Children of the Street Society, the Lower Mainland St. Leonard’s Society, and been involved at all levels of amateur sports. Wayne is currently a director of the British Columbia Mediator Roster Society. On the personal side Wayne is devoted to the sport of
Racquetball. He actively plays and promotes the game. A true west coaster Wayne
is an avid fisherman, skier and hiker, enjoying the outdoors of our
beautiful province. Links Collaborative Family Law Group
