Word of the Day

I've decided that it's about time to make use of some of the words-of-the-day that have been piling up in my inbox. To that end, at the risk of sounding overly magniloquent, I have festinately composed this sesquipedalian blog entry. Because of the propinquity of their next gig, I have chosen to write about Burning the Ground, one of my favourite local bands, who play a quodlibet of music from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. Though perhaps that description is somewhat mendacious... I do not mean to imply that BTG is some sort of whimsical retro band playing the mawkish tunes of bands like Air Supply *shudder*. But their highly danceable versions of "Funkytown", "Tainted Love" and "Turning Japanese" will put you in a state of hypermnesia of the 80's. And the causeries with the band members in between sets aren't bad either. I defy you not to kvell* over this band once you've seen them live. (Gee, can we say "suck up" boys and girls? Hey, anyone got a highfalutin word for "suck up"?)

*A search for kvell at Merriam-Webster Online results in a page that says: "kvell is one of more than 1,000,000 entries available at Merriam-WebsterUnabridged.com" which, of course, requires you to subscribe to it. So I'll copy the definition from my WOTD email here: "kvell \KVELL\ verb : to be extraordinarily proud : rejoice"

Psst... Mandy... the Funkytown clip above is Real Audio, so here's another (not as good) clip of "Funkytown" that you'll actually be able to listen to (as if you haven't heard the song enough times already :-p).
