Arcane

Apparently, my two most popular posts are Hallelujah and The Crimson Room. So for those of you who ended up at my blog searching for help on The Crimson Room, you might want to try playing Arcane (if you haven't already). Here are my hints for the episodes that I've played so far (I'm trying very hard not to give too much away... I hate those walkthroughs that spell everything out, give me subtle hints any day):

Season 1: The Miller Estate

The Miller Estate, Episode 1:
1. I wonder where you might find something to tie on the end of the rope for the well? Anyplace else that's causing Prescott's machine to blip?
2. Anything in the trunk? On the trunk? Under the trunk?
3. Interesting how the light shimmers over the "7th" on the bottles. I wonder if the number 7 means anything...

The Miller Estate, Episode 2:
1. Sometimes the key is as simple as turning on the light and stepping back to look at the big picture.
2. How do you pry something out of the dead man's hand? 'One finger at a time' is a good rule of thumb.
3. Ophelia's a pretty smart cookie when she says, "If I do this, the key will fall to the floor on the other side." I wonder how you could make sure she catches it?
4. Hmm, that bookshelf seems to be catching Ophelia's eye. Interesting statues, dontcha think? Hey, what did the letter say about an Idol and a Magical Sign? (For a more specific hint, go here.)

The Miller Estate, Episode 3:
1. So many buttons on the globe. Maybe one of the books can help you figure out which ones to push. (Where exactly is Peru, anyway?)
2. Believe it or not, that dining room platter might come in handy. But don't take my word for it. Turn the lights out and examine it by the moonlight streaming through the window.
3. As for the clock, you've probably figured out the gems, turnkey and the time shown in the painting. But what I got stuck on was the fact that each gem needed a different time. Think in multiples of that number you saw again and again.
4. I quite enjoyed the jigsaw puzzle of the gears in the basement. Trial and error works best here.

The Miller Estate, Episode 4:
1. Assembling the ladder is time sensitive thanks to that pesky tide. Pay attention to what pieces fit into what holes, in case the tide comes in and you have to start all over again. (If you're missing a piece, go back a step.)
2. When the story switches to Prescott, the diary gives you one of the clues you need: "Who could have thought of such a strange way to use such a weapon." But before you use it for that purpose, you'll need to load it and shoot something or you're gonna be missing an essential aid in a few minutes.
3. You might want to read the map and choose a route before sending Prescott down the stairs, because time will be an issue when you start through the maze.
4. Once you find Gregor, it's like playing pick-up sticks to get him free.
5. So now that all the people and inventories are in one place, how do you put the torn pages together? Try to remember who found which piece.
6. Okay, so now you've got it in one piece but Gregor still can't figure it out. Maybe it's time to shed a little light on the paper.
7. Pay attention to what the book says.
8. I hope you've got good aim when it comes to hitting the monster!
(I didn't really enjoy this episode... too much dialogue in between the interactive stuff and too many opportunities to die. Pity the save feature doesn't work.)

Season 2: The Stone Circle

The Stone Circle, Episode 1:
1. Don't let a knife deter you from touching the bum's stuff.
2. Do you think that pallet might float?
3. I could not figure out that damned sequence of buttons to get to the box, so I'm throwing subtlety out the window here (if you're determined to figure it out on your own, avert your eyes from the rest of this line): four, two, five, six.
4. Ditto about the sequence to get to the stairs, so after you pull the lever to reset the crates: three, two, one, two, four, two, five.
5. It's always a good idea to pick up any tools you see laying about.
6. Damn the water in the sewer! Hmm, maybe that pipe you noticed by the bum is some kind of outflow pipe.
7. Interesting how you can get the symbols on the bolts to line up with that symbol on the drainage spout. (So does that middle bit look more like a circle or an oval?)
8. One man's ladder is another man's bridge.
9. Cool secret chamber! That image on the wall and hole in the floor look kinda similar, dontcha think? Hmm, come to think of it, they both look a little like that dreamcatcher you found in the box. Hey, didn't Indiana Jones rig up something like this using a light source and an amulet to show him what to do next? (If you need a more specific hint at this point, go here.)

The Stone Circle, Episode 2:
1. I can't believe I forgot to check the drawer in the dressing room on my first attempt.
2. But I always remember to check people's pockets.
3. Gee, that utility closet has some handy looking stuff in it.
4. So did you find the light panel yet? It might be helpful to know which switch turns on which spotlight.
5. And hey, didn't that letter you found earlier mention something about light?
6. Hmm, those funny symbols on the doors kinda look like the ones in that mural.
7. Need more direction? When lining up the symbols, the matching symbols should be on the BOTTOM of the 4 wheels.
8. Be careful, disconnecting chains could be deadly if you don't consider the laws of physics and what might happen if you loosen two chains right next to each other.

The Stone Circle, Episode 3: I've actually found a really good hint site that has a big advantage over hints in a blog post. It has hint questions on one page with links to the answers on separate pages. So your eye won't skip ahead to information that you might have been able to figure out yourself. So my hints here will be a little different from previous episodes...
1. Four objects that I did not even notice on my own (perhaps my screen is too small or maybe that's just a lame excuse to hide the fact that I'm not very observant): red mallet, locked staircase, alarm clock, red journal.
2. Items that can potentially distract or get rid of men: lifesaver, alarm clock, deck cleaning chemical.
3. And when it comes to that damn heavy box, think journal and infrared goggles.
But if you want answers to questions such as what to do after you see the diver come up with the box and you go forward on the deck and get caught by the guy up top, then head on over to Mandi's Hint Page.

The Stone Circle, Episode 4: I keep getting Prescott killed during the fight on top of the train. And since I can't save the *#@$! game, I have to go through all the beginning stuff over and over. So I decided to skip this one for the time being. I'll post my hints once I've actually completed the damn thing.

The Stone Circle, Episode 5: I really liked this episode and found it pretty straightforward (because I really like spatial puzzles). So only one hint from me...
1. "W11" isn't the only thing you need from the items on display.
If you need more hints, head over to Mandi's page.

I'll continue to update this post as I finish each subsequent episode. And if you're still stuck and want the walkthroughs after all, head over to The Geek Forum.
