Inner Game Geek
Because I know that most of my regular readers aren't all that interested in my geeky game posts, I've started a new blog called Inner Game Geek. I'll be gradually shifting some of my previous game posts over there as well as adding new posts about the games that I choose to waste my time on in the future. (If you're one of my few regular readers who also plays games, you might want to bookmark the new site.)

Speaking of Games...
Since I have seven minutes left to procrastinate before my work phone call comes in, I thought I'd post a link to Kakuro.com. Most of you—even if you're not math & puzzle geeks—have probably heard of Sudoku by now, that new Japanese math puzzle craze. Well, Kakuro is even better. Sometimes referred to as Cross Sums, Kakuro is Sudoku's bigger and harder brother. And now you can play this free daily Kakuro puzzle online.
P.S. I completed today's puzzle in 3 min 37 sec. How did you do?

Jack Attack
I'd forgotten all about the trivia game You Don't Know Jack until someone posted an episode of it on I Am Bored.com this weekend. So if you're looking for a fun time-wasting, procrastinating tool (because we all have too much time on our hands, right?
), go see if you know stuff... or if you know Jack!

Swapping is the New Shopping
Here's a website with a very cool idea. You can trade your DVDs, music CDs, games, books and audiobooks all in one place. It's called Hitflip UK and, as the name implies, is currently only in the UK. But they started in Germany and it looks as though they're planning on expanding into the States, so I'm crossing my fingers that they'll end up in Canada eventually (hopefully they'll post these kinds of updates on their blog).
I love the idea of being able to swap DVDs that I've grown tired of (doesn't happen very often) or have duplicates of (which is somewhat more common) or that were gifts from people who didn't check my Amazon.com wish list (probably the most common reason I would swap).
*a few moments pass as I browse the site... *
Okay, now I'm desperate. I just did a search and seasons 1-5 of "Drop the Dead Donkey" are available to swap! I know the site is just for residents of the UK and I know the DVDs would be the wrong format anyway, but I want that show!!!!
*takes deep breath*
Okay, I've calmed down now. But I still want that TV show. I'll just have to figure out another way to get it. And I will. I'm quite determined that I will.

Puzzle Freak
I've become hooked on this online puzzle game called Puzzle Freak. It's like a board game that you play with a computer and every square you land on requires you to solve a new puzzle. You then get "IQ" scores depending on the outcome of your puzzle. My highest score so far is 174.
Puzzle types:
Mazes: Unfortunately, if you have a good score then you don't want the easy mazes because those are too easy and bring your score down.
Jigsaws: Surprisingly, the jigsaw puzzles don't seem to have that effect and they're pretty easy, too. (You can rotate the pieces by holding the pointer near the edges of the pieces; I add that because that took me some figuring… pretty pathetic, eh?)
Find 5: These ones are your basic find five items in a picture. They're pretty straightforward, but just in case you have problems, I have included full solutions.
Compare: This is when you have two images and you have to find the five differences between them. Again, straightforward but sometimes that last difference just eludes you, so I've posted full solutions for these, as well.
Concentration: For this one you have to memorize 12 photos in 10 seconds, then they'll turn them over and give you one image that you have to remember where it was in the 12. Pretty straightforward also, especially because they always use the same photos. But there are several with foliage in them that are easily confused, so just pay attention.
Make the dogs stand up: This is your basic "lights out" style game where you click on one light and it turns on (or off, depending on how it started) and all of the neighbouring lights switch from on to off (or off to on) also. I don't know why, but I actually find it easier with these silly dogs. If you want advice on these types of puzzles, head over to Hamusutaa's Lights Out page. (This one offers good point values, so it's worth getting the hang of it.)
Donuts: For this one you have to move the donuts from the left hand side stick to the right hand side. Smaller donuts can only go on larger donuts. This isn't too tricky either, it just involves a lot of moving back and forth. Start each of them by moving the smallest donut to one of the free sticks, the second smallest donut on the other free stick. Then put the smallest donut on top of the second smallest donut, freeing up the other stick and so on and so forth. One tip: if there is an even number of donuts, the smallest donut goes on the middle stick first. For odd numbers, the smallest donut goes on the right hand stick first.
Watch the dice: The old dice under a cup, watch them move and figure out where the dice is now. I actually hate this one. It starts out easily but I usually end up missing one near the end as it speeds up. The only tip I can offer on this one is to watch the top of the cups rather than the bottom. Maybe it's just me but it helps me follow the cup that I'm trying to follow. (Pet peeve: singular of dice is actually "die" but they use "dice" which is why I'm grammatically incorrect here.)
Slide puzzles: I know some people don't like these slide puzzles, but I quite like them. I don't really know how to offer hints on these, though. Except to say that in all of the puzzles, the upper left tile is the one that's missing. And I can offer some practice: Sliding Grid Puzzle.
Space station: This is your basic get your space ship to the space station game, where the ship flies in a straight path, stopping at planets where you can then turn left or right (or up or down). If there's no planet in the path of your ship, it will fly right off the screen. I haven't taken screenshots of any of these because I think they're fairly easy. But if anyone would like more help with these, just leave a comment and I'll take some screenshots and offer hints.
Water jugs: These puzzles require you to end up with a specified amount of water in two of three jugs of differing sizes. There are three variations on this puzzle, and I've got links to solutions for each: 12-7-5, 10-7-3 and 8-5-3.
Balls: These puzzles require you to shift the positions of the blue balls to match the pattern of the yellow balls. Some are very easy, some are quite tricky. I haven't taken screenshots while I've done these puzzles though, but I'll add these in eventually if people want more guidance. Just leave a comment here if you think that would help.
Parking lot: This is very similar to Grid Lock over on eBaum's World (good practice). I will not provide step-by-step solutions for these puzzles, but I do have screenshots of various stages of each puzzle to help guide you. These are the five different versions that I've come across. (If you find any other ones, please email me a screenshot.)

Pegs: I always liked these types of puzzles, too. But if you need some help, I've done the same screenshot hints that I did for the parking lot puzzles. You still need to figure out the in-between steps, though. And there's usually more than one method for each of these puzzles, so you may well find different routes. My hints are just guidelines. If you want to practice, head over to this site.
I might come back and tweak the format of these hints so it's easier to use for reference, so let me know if you have any additional information you would like me to include.
P.S. You can also access the game as Puzzlefreak on I am Bored.com, but the screen size is only half of the screen size on the original site. This makes the match and find puzzles a lot trickier. Oh and for some reason the dice game is faster on I am Bored.com... faster not being a good thing here. So I definitely recommend the link at the beginning of this post instead.

Out 2
For some reason, tonight's episode of Dr. Who kind of reminded me of a point and click game that I played recently. Then I realized that it's been a while since I posted any game hints, so this one's for the game geeks.
Out 2
General Advice:
1. The tab key will not help with pixel hunting for this game but don't worry, the arrow will change when your cursor is on something clickable.
2. Inspect everything you pick up, just in case there is more to it than meets the eye.
3. Don't believe the walkthrough when it says something is useless. Everything you find has a use, even if you can solve it very frustratingly without.
Specific Hints:
1. You need to find something before you can enter the door. But it's very dark and you might not be able to see it well, so just rely on your mouse to find it. And be careful not to fall off the cliff to get it.
2. I recommend checking the doorway after the earthquake to see if you're trapped. There might be more stuff to find in the darkness there.
3. Then you can use what you just found to help get the thing that you can't reach. Did you know that if you touch metal to a magnet, it magnetizes the metal?
4. To pick up the stylus pen after you've made the appropriate contraption, hold your left mouse button down while dragging it over the pen. Once the pen sticks, release your left mouse button. (I had trouble picking up the pen, so if you're as pathetic as me, go to the walkthrough page and click on step 4 for more specific instructions.)
5. Are the elevator buttons working? If not, you might need to redistribute some power.
6. There are times when you might think it's the proximity of the green arrow that makes your cursor clickable, but you might want to examine that theory a little more closely underground.
7. Find somewhere to play your CDs. (And remember the note that you found?) If you need help reading music, check out this site.
8. Now you need to find somewhere to enter the code you just cracked. It doesn't seem to help with anything upstairs...
9. Once you've entered the code, some things that didn't move before should be able to be moved now.
10. Now you can go back to the computer and play with power. It might get a little dark at that point, but you can still use the computer panels (you did check out each of the panels at some point, right? And you paid attention to the various slots and levers?) You can now deal with the flashing error on one of them. And once you have, you can now use something else that didn't seem to do anything before. If you don't know what I'm talking about, turn the lights back on and take another look. And if dragging it down still doesn't do anything, what else could you try?
11. Don't worry about sirens or flashing red lights, just redistribute the power again.
12. You need to collect a couple of things from downstairs now. One of them was available after you shifted the gear levers, one of them just became available after the gears started moving. Now where did you see a place to use that new thing?
13. Now you have the means to access an area that wouldn't open before. You need what's in there. Go put it on.
14. And now let's deal with the other thing you found. To decipher the code, think about the colours on the computer panels and the letters in the words. And where you will be entering this code. If you want more help on this one, click step 14 on the walkthrough.
15. Enter the code and make sure that you get everything out of the box. Make sure you read the instructions. (And this may be obvious but it took me a minute... you need to close the box before you can leave.)
16. Oh hey, I guess it's an emergency now. I wonder if there are some emergency items that I can get that I couldn't before?
17. Okay, now you've got everything, it's time to go up and out the hatch. The next stuff was not remotely intuitive to me, so if these hints aren't sufficient, I suggest checking out steps 17 & 18 in the walkthrough. (a) If you click the suit in your inventory, your right hand will appear on the screen, (b) you should probably turn the infrared camera on, and (c) see that bar on the left of your screen... the one with the T and the W? What happens if you press those letters?
18. Don't fire the rocket launcher until you reach -100 meters and you see a green square on the screen with a "locked on" signal.
Complete walkthrough available here.
I don't think I played the first Out game, so maybe I'll go play it soon and post some hints for that one, too.

Time Well Wasted
I found another free online game site. The games seem fairly simplistic for the most part, but with over 150 games there are certainly plenty to choose from. They've got some classic arcade style games (like Pac Man! Although I swear this Pac Man screams when he runs into the ghosts) some action games (funny ones like Fly Swatter or Toilet Dash, or cooler, more serious games like Terrain and its later chapters), along with the usual action, sports, funny, sexy and casino game categories. All in all, time well wasted. So whaddya still doing here, go play games already.

Poker? I Hardly Know Her!
Many apologies for the highly unoriginal title, but what is it with this online poker craze? It seems like everyone I know is playing. Sitting around last night next to the boy who keeps calling me pretty... and he's more interested in playing poker than chatting with me! So with the notion of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"—or in this case, I guess it would be "hold 'em"—I checked out this Free Poker site. It has an extensive Texas Hold'em Guide for newbies like me. And lots of other features for the old pros (and for boys who ignore me while being better poker players than me).
Then again, maybe I don't need to play poker to get the attention I'm looking for...

Crossword Game

I came across this fun little Crossword Game. It's not your conventional crossword with across and down clues, it's kind of more a fill-in-the-letters sort of thing but not exactly. Apparently my powers of description fail me at the moment (not a comforting thing for a writer) but the game is fun nonetheless, so just try it. (And if you need any help as the levels get harder, I recommend OneAcross.com.)

Mazito 3 Text Map
*warning... this post will be of interest to game geeks only
*
I'm working on a text map for Mazito 3. These are just the routes I've taken so far. The ellipses indicate incomplete maps. "Mr. Logic's Home" refers to the photo tours, some of which have new paths that I've found, others... well, some are probably dead ends, some may have new paths that I haven't found yet. The numbers in bold are rooms that have more than one answer (if you find an alternate path that I haven't indicated yet, please leave me a comment or send me an email and I will amend the map). Be warned, I'm skipping over some stuff so that I don't make things too easy for people. See my previous post for helpful links.

*I'm working on a text map for Mazito 3.

Mazito 3
I just found out that Mazito 3, the third Mazito url fabrication game, became available yesterday. I have a lot of stuff that I need to get done over the weekend, but if I'm a good girl and get it all done then maybe I'll let myself play.
For those of you who are playing, my hints for the previous Mazito games are here: The Mazito, Mazito 2. And to look for hints and for other folks playing this game, I suggest you head over to the Nordinho.net Mazito-3 thread or the SiMPLE CodeWorks message board.
Once I have some time to start playing, I'll post my own hints here. Good luck and good gaming!
P.S. I took a quick look at the game (shame on me) and saw that it starts out with a photo tour of Mr. Logic's home. For this part, find a way into the house and find the computer. When you're looking at the computer, go "forward" and the url fabrication part of the game starts.
Addendum: Fine, I've been a total slacker today and ended up playing Mazito 3. If anyone wants a text map of the routes I've taken so far (see my Mazito 2 text map), let me know and I'll throw one together. In the meantime, a few links that might come in handy:
Google (and Google Images)
Introduction to Cryptography
One Across - Crossword Puzzle Help (but if this site isn't working, try Crossword Solver for those pesky "I am a ten letter word..." type questions)
Prime Pages (for prime number stuff)
Rebus Puzzles (for those pictogram puzzles, ex. the answer to "THODEEPUGHT" is "deep in thought")
Resistor Colour Code
Su Doku Puzzles
I'll post specific hints when I'm done, but right now I'm stuck in Room 189 (which may or may not be on a valid path). It's soooo frustrating because I know I should know who this is, but I don't. So if anyone can give me a hint about who is in this photo, I would be happy to share more Mazito info:

Who is this man?!?!

Detention and Garage Escapes
Escape from Detention hints:
Since I don't think you need a detailed walkthrough to solve this game, I've arranged my hints in a slightly different way this time...
Objects you need to find:
~ quarter
~ rope
~ crowbar
~ meatloaf
~ roll of string
~ magnet
~ chemicals
~ password
~ gold key
~ main door key
Rooms you need to visit:
~ electrical room
~ hallway
~ cafeteria
~ kitchen
~ science lab
~ library
~ lounge
~ gym
~ gym office
Actions you need to do:
~ get out of first classroom... need quarter, light, and people stacked on bench in right order. *how to spoiler* For stacking: click on first person, then click on bench; click on second person, then click on bench again (do not click the person kneeling on the bench) and so forth. Change the order of people if you need to. To use the quarter, make sure it's in the backpack of whoever's on top, then click the quarter, then click the vent. *end spoiler*
~ turn on the power
~ get other kids out of classroom... need rope. *how to spoiler* Tie rope to something to anchor it then throw other end into vent. *end spoiler*
~ get key out of grate... need magnet and string. Combine by selecting one object and clicking on the other.
~ put dog to sleep... need meatloaf, chemicals and information from the chemistry database (on computer)
For more detailed help, head over to the forum at Nordinho.net.
**********
Garage Escape hints:
(Note about glitches: don't click the boxes on the top unless you want to restart; you can kind of see two keys up above as well, but you will find them through the course of the game if you want to do it right; sometimes you need to click on an object to deselect it before you can select another object; I found that some things needed to be done in the right order for them to work, so I ended up restarting the game several times before I got it all figured out.)
Objects you need to find:
2 keys
2 wires
5 pieces of wood
car jack
ID card
keyboard
notebook
Actions you need to do:
~ jack up car
~ build ladder
~ get phone working... need both wires. *how-to spoiler* Knock off water jug, plug in electrical cord, click on puddle of water to place other end of cord (the far left end is where I got it to work) select other wire, put one end in water (to the right of the now empty jug) and the other on the phone (not while zoomed in). *end spoiler*
~ boot up computer... need keyboard & password. *how-to spoiler* Dial phone number found on ID card, the password is on the voice message. Put keyboard in front of second monitor (the one not on top of the hard drive) and turn on computer. *end spoiler*

Point-and-Click Games
I've been compiling some of the point-and-click games that I've played, along with links, hints and a few opinions...
Good Games:
The Mystery Of Time And Space (M.O.T.A.S.) — Hints: 1. The security panel on Level 5 can be decoded through trial and error, but if you want a shortcut go here; 2. Level 7 is a little tedious because you have to go back and forth so much. A couple of hints... Take note of the colour chart on the wall; you'll need it soon. And to write a letter after you've found paper and pen, return to the room with the letter from the security guy so that you can trace his handwriting; 3. On Level 8, the clock weights are to be used in a room that is hidden at the start of the level; 4. When using the computer on Level 9, after you've entered the first command you'll be shown a couple of different pictures and 4 or 5 letters total (this may change from game to game). Make a word out of the letters you saw and enter it to open up the next door; 5. I hated the green wall on level 12. If you want to take the easy way out, go here for step-by-step instructions. And if you reach the last door but don't have the key, go back to the room where you found the hidden numbers on the wall and check the overhead light (that's not the door key, but it will help you get the door key); 6. On level 13, read the plaques at the bottom of the paintings for a clue to the colour machine on the main floor (the colours change direction from game to game, so take note of what they are for your game). And when you program that machine, make sure it's rectangular before you pull the handle. There's a whole forum at Nordinho.net devoted to walkthroughs and hints for all the various levels of M.O.T.A.S. And there are no shortage of walkthroughs on the internet: Text Walkthrough, 1-12, Walkthrough with Pictures, 1-12, Another Walkthrough with Pictures, 1-12, Text Walkthrough 1-13, Another Text Walkthrough, 1-13. For a preview of Level 14, go here (the password is "taters").
The Stone of Anamara (La Piedra de Anamara) — Hints: 1. When you're in the bathroom, let the hot water run until it steams up the mirror; 2. Once you've found a message about the kitchen, go straight there; 3. After using the Ouija board, follow its instructions immediately. Since parts of this game can be challenging, you might want to check out the thread at Nordinho.net.
The Doors — Hints: 1. The upside down room turns right side up when you find the right thing; 2. The little rubik's cube type pieces make cubes that you drag and drop onto the weird little platform beside (or under) certain doors; 3. For the final cube, arrange the playing cards according to the signs that correspond with the room number (I drew a little map for myself to keep them straight). And for extra help for those who want it, the Nordinho.net thread for The Doors.
Arcane (My tips for this game are in my Arcane post.)
Dr. Stanley's House — Hints: 1. To prepare the steak for the dog, click on the plate then click on the magnifying glass. The plate should then be in the middle of your screen. Then click on the meat and click the plate again. Then do the same to the alcohol (yes, it's alcohol not poison); 2. Don't worry when you lose all your stuff, you will find it again; 3. Not all doors that you need to go through will be in the middle of your screen. Keep your eyes open for doors off to the side; 4. After connecting the phone cord, a lot of people had trouble using the phone. Here's the trick: Give the folder to the old man (you need to give him something to drink before he'll take the folder). He will say something that is two characters long that I assume is "Thank You." Now this is the part that most people have missed (and the only time that it seems to matter that the text is in Chinese): Click on the old man again and he'll mutter a longer sentence. Apparently he is telling you to call an ambulance. NOW you can go to the phone. (Even though the text is in Chinese, you can basically figure out the game without knowing what it says. Be warned... this game takes a looong time to load, so be patient. There's an alternative site for it here that seems to load faster. If you want translations even though they give away the story, click on smallx's spoiler on this page.)
The Crimson Room & The Viridian Room (My hints for these rooms are in my Crimson Room post.)
Escape from Detention (My hints for this game are in my Detention & Garage Escapes post.)
Scoop: Episode 1 (Don't worry, there's enough English to be able to figure it out.)
Dona's Room
The Cave (The end gives you a teaser for the upcoming movie of the same name.)
Anode & Cathode: The House — Hints: 1. To use the glasses, click on them so they're in the middle of the screen. Then click on an electronic chip and insert it in the rectangular area on the side of the glasses. Then click on the chip after it's inserted to see a vision. The visions will help you find jewelry. 2. Sometimes you gotta go ahead and break stuff. (The first time I played it, it was very glitchy when I tried to zoom in on stuff. It was fine the second time.)
Anode & Cathode: The Office (I found this one to be glitchy sometimes, too.)
Maama Room — Some of the areas you need to click on are really small, so it might help to zoom in on the place you're trying to click.
Quick and Easy Games:
The Blue Chamber
One Time Never
Scooby-Doo and the Creepy Castle
Garfield: Scary Scavenger Hunt, Donuts of Doom
Les adventures d'Oriel (Don't be thrown off by the French title; the instructions are in English. If you're looking for hints, check out my Oriel post.)
nesquikQuest
Titanic (a Futurama game in three parts): Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3
Cannibalon Carnage: Episode 1, Episode 2
Mr. Leaky
Noob's Room
T.C.B. Museum
The Phone
Okay Games:
The Garage Escape — Decent game but very glitchy. (My hints for this game are in my Detention & Garage Escapes post.)
Escape: The Room — It requires you to do some rather counter-intuitive things, like using the knife to cut non-fabric and non-paper things.
Linsnail Room — Requires some non-intuitive and illogical leaps. Hints: 1. Once you have six objects, place five of them in the squares above the yellow button (hidden in the cupboard) according to the morse code on the front of the drawers (if necessary, zoom in or adjust your brightness/contrast to read these). I think the "b" stands for book, "d" for death, "e" for empty, "l" for light, "w" for water. The other letter looks like an "m" to me, which makes no sense (the only connection I can make is Mac the Knife... though someone suggested it might stand for "metal"; someone else suggested that it was actually another "w" standing for "weapon"); 2. Once you have the key, you can find the rope tile (picture? chip?) which is sort of your template for the puzzle behind the picture. Start in the right upper corner and go clockwise, making the dots face the next puzzle piece. Once they're all arranged, click on the rope tile to complete that puzzle; 3. Now you're supposed to intuit a two letter code for the door from the golf ball. (For more help with this illogical game, check out the Nordinho.net thread.)
3wish01 — This is a cute game but it doesn't give you any instructions or even tell you what you're trying to do. The goal (since it doesn't tell you) is to help the hamster get the sunflower seeds from the jar on the bookcase. P.S. To access your inventory, click on the hamster. (There's a walkthrough here, if you want it.)
Wheat Straw Girl — Kinda cute, interesting graphics, but way too much animation between clicks. And don't get me started on all the Japanese "dialogue" at the beginning and the end. I would have been bored even if it had been in English. I kept wanting to ask "is it my turn yet?" But if you have more patience than me, you will probably enjoy it. Hint: When battling the witch, click the red glowing girl just as you hear the sound start. Click her again before the black ball bounces back. And so on until the witch is dead. (If you want to skip the opening story, use this link instead.)
Games that Suck:
The Pink Room — Most pointless escape game ever.
Windows Escape — Bad and glitchy ripoff of the 13th level of M.O.T.A.S. with no way to access your inventory.
Tomb Escape — Graphics are terrible and game is boring, except when it's being frustratingly inconsistent.
Escape the Mansion — Unfinished ("ending will be released depending on the rating score"), ridiculously simple, with crude graphics to boot.
Nordinho.net Forums has threads on most of these games if you need help.
Phew. I've been working on this post for ages and it's still a work in progress, but I'd thought I'd post what I had so far. I plan to come back and add other games and hints as I find the time.
Addendum: New games will no longer be added to this post. I'll be using the Blogger labels from now on, so future game hints will be accessible by clicking on the "games" label.

Tempus Fugit
I don't know if it's synchronicity, coincidence or a case of once you notice something you notice the same thing everywhere...
I rewatched the episode of Buffy where she starts work at a burger joint (Doublemeat Palace, Season 6) on the same day that I discovered the SpongeBob SquarePants game: Flip or Flop, where you spend three shifts making Krabby Patties (my high score is 9,913). I found myself marvelling that a job so mundane and boring in real life could be so addictive as a computer game.
The next day, I discovered Diner Dash over at Yahoo! Games. I had so much fun with it that I went in search of a crack so I could play the full version.
A couple days later, I came across Taco Joe. Not quite as good as the others, but still kinda fun. Which made me wonder... why?
What is the appeal of these fast food restaurant games? Maybe it's the whole sim game thing in general, though I've never really been into those (though perhaps I just haven't given them a proper chance). Or maybe it's some kind of cultural fascination with the whole time and motion study sort of thing.
If you're expecting some sort of fascinating sociological conclusion here, you're going to be sorely disappointed. No conclusions, just rambling. And the vague memory of the time-obsessed character, Vernon Hines, from the musical The Pajama Game (fyi... I played Gladys in my high school production) and the songs that show his obsession: Racing with the Clock & Think of the Time I Save...
"Tick tock, tick tock
Tempus fugit.
Tick tock, tick tock
Time goes by.
I'll be sitting counting seconds
Til the day I die..."
(Memory is a funny thing... I could have sworn that the lyrics to that last line were: "How I love to sit and watch the seconds multiply." But my Google search showed differently: "die" not "multiply." I can't help but wonder if my faulty recollection suggests that my inner math geek is stronger than my inner Goth. Hmm...)
Diner Dash Hints:
1. Chaining Bonuses — Think time and motion study efficiency stuff... do the same thing 2, 3 or 4 or more times in a row (and save a restaurant full of dirty tables to the very end).
2. Colour Matching — As in, seat a red person in a red chair and watch the points roll in.
3. Podium — Once you've got a podium, only seat four tables at a time and wait at the podium after you've served their food (even if they're asking for crab sticks or samosas). And make sure you wait until the heart finishes growing and everybody in line does the wave of happiness before you do anything else.

Geekdom
Just took a quiz called What's Your Geek Decade? and found out that I'm a 60's geek. Hmm, I think I can live with that...

Also found a strangely addictive game: Guess the Google. You have to guess which Google keyword would have returned all of the images in a group of 20. There are 10 rounds, 20 seconds per round, bonus points for guessing quickly and for some reason I can't stop playing. My best score so far is 376. (Ahem... what kind of geek did that other quiz say I was again?)
And while I'm being geeky, a few other fun, quick games that I've stumbled across recently:
Scary Sleepover - How scary are you? (The earliest I've managed to get the contestant to leave is 12:42 a.m.)
Acaro - An amusing little point and click.
Warthog Launch - A fun game that I, personally, think should be incorporated into a high school physics curriculum. Calculating force and trajectory have never been so much fun! (My highest completed level to date is 27.)
And hey, just finished this riddle game and "won" this:

Are you gnarly enough to take the riddle challenge?
Enjoy the fruits of my productive Saturday afternoon!

Arcane
Apparently, my two most popular posts are Hallelujah and The Crimson Room. So for those of you who ended up at my blog searching for help on The Crimson Room, you might want to try playing Arcane (if you haven't already). Here are my hints for the episodes that I've played so far (I'm trying very hard not to give too much away... I hate those walkthroughs that spell everything out, give me subtle hints any day):
Season 1: The Miller Estate
The Miller Estate, Episode 1:
1. I wonder where you might find something to tie on the end of the rope for the well? Anyplace else that's causing Prescott's machine to blip?
2. Anything in the trunk? On the trunk? Under the trunk?
3. Interesting how the light shimmers over the "7th" on the bottles. I wonder if the number 7 means anything...
The Miller Estate, Episode 2:
1. Sometimes the key is as simple as turning on the light and stepping back to look at the big picture.
2. How do you pry something out of the dead man's hand? 'One finger at a time' is a good rule of thumb.
3. Ophelia's a pretty smart cookie when she says, "If I do this, the key will fall to the floor on the other side." I wonder how you could make sure she catches it?
4. Hmm, that bookshelf seems to be catching Ophelia's eye. Interesting statues, dontcha think? Hey, what did the letter say about an Idol and a Magical Sign? (For a more specific hint, go here.)
The Miller Estate, Episode 3:
1. So many buttons on the globe. Maybe one of the books can help you figure out which ones to push. (Where exactly is Peru, anyway?)
2. Believe it or not, that dining room platter might come in handy. But don't take my word for it. Turn the lights out and examine it by the moonlight streaming through the window.
3. As for the clock, you've probably figured out the gems, turnkey and the time shown in the painting. But what I got stuck on was the fact that each gem needed a different time. Think in multiples of that number you saw again and again.
4. I quite enjoyed the jigsaw puzzle of the gears in the basement. Trial and error works best here.
The Miller Estate, Episode 4:
1. Assembling the ladder is time sensitive thanks to that pesky tide. Pay attention to what pieces fit into what holes, in case the tide comes in and you have to start all over again. (If you're missing a piece, go back a step.)
2. When the story switches to Prescott, the diary gives you one of the clues you need: "Who could have thought of such a strange way to use such a weapon." But before you use it for that purpose, you'll need to load it and shoot something or you're gonna be missing an essential aid in a few minutes.
3. You might want to read the map and choose a route before sending Prescott down the stairs, because time will be an issue when you start through the maze.
4. Once you find Gregor, it's like playing pick-up sticks to get him free.
5. So now that all the people and inventories are in one place, how do you put the torn pages together? Try to remember who found which piece.
6. Okay, so now you've got it in one piece but Gregor still can't figure it out. Maybe it's time to shed a little light on the paper.
7. Pay attention to what the book says.
8. I hope you've got good aim when it comes to hitting the monster!
(I didn't really enjoy this episode... too much dialogue in between the interactive stuff and too many opportunities to die. Pity the save feature doesn't work.)
Season 2: The Stone Circle
The Stone Circle, Episode 1:
1. Don't let a knife deter you from touching the bum's stuff.
2. Do you think that pallet might float?
3. I could not figure out that damned sequence of buttons to get to the box, so I'm throwing subtlety out the window here (if you're determined to figure it out on your own, avert your eyes from the rest of this line): four, two, five, six.
4. Ditto about the sequence to get to the stairs, so after you pull the lever to reset the crates: three, two, one, two, four, two, five.
5. It's always a good idea to pick up any tools you see laying about.
6. Damn the water in the sewer! Hmm, maybe that pipe you noticed by the bum is some kind of outflow pipe.
7. Interesting how you can get the symbols on the bolts to line up with that symbol on the drainage spout. (So does that middle bit look more like a circle or an oval?)
8. One man's ladder is another man's bridge.
9. Cool secret chamber! That image on the wall and hole in the floor look kinda similar, dontcha think? Hmm, come to think of it, they both look a little like that dreamcatcher you found in the box. Hey, didn't Indiana Jones rig up something like this using a light source and an amulet to show him what to do next? (If you need a more specific hint at this point, go here.)
The Stone Circle, Episode 2:
1. I can't believe I forgot to check the drawer in the dressing room on my first attempt.
2. But I always remember to check people's pockets.
3. Gee, that utility closet has some handy looking stuff in it.
4. So did you find the light panel yet? It might be helpful to know which switch turns on which spotlight.
5. And hey, didn't that letter you found earlier mention something about light?
6. Hmm, those funny symbols on the doors kinda look like the ones in that mural.
7. Need more direction? When lining up the symbols, the matching symbols should be on the BOTTOM of the 4 wheels.
8. Be careful, disconnecting chains could be deadly if you don't consider the laws of physics and what might happen if you loosen two chains right next to each other.
The Stone Circle, Episode 3: I've actually found a really good hint site that has a big advantage over hints in a blog post. It has hint questions on one page with links to the answers on separate pages. So your eye won't skip ahead to information that you might have been able to figure out yourself. So my hints here will be a little different from previous episodes...
1. Four objects that I did not even notice on my own (perhaps my screen is too small or maybe that's just a lame excuse to hide the fact that I'm not very observant): red mallet, locked staircase, alarm clock, red journal.
2. Items that can potentially distract or get rid of men: lifesaver, alarm clock, deck cleaning chemical.
3. And when it comes to that damn heavy box, think journal and infrared goggles.
But if you want answers to questions such as what to do after you see the diver come up with the box and you go forward on the deck and get caught by the guy up top, then head on over to Mandi's Hint Page.
The Stone Circle, Episode 4: I keep getting Prescott killed during the fight on top of the train. And since I can't save the *#@$! game, I have to go through all the beginning stuff over and over. So I decided to skip this one for the time being. I'll post my hints once I've actually completed the damn thing.
The Stone Circle, Episode 5: I really liked this episode and found it pretty straightforward (because I really like spatial puzzles). So only one hint from me...
1. "W11" isn't the only thing you need from the items on display.
If you need more hints, head over to Mandi's page.
I'll continue to update this post as I finish each subsequent episode. And if you're still stuck and want the walkthroughs after all, head over to The Geek Forum.

The Blue Period
I know that my post of barely an hour ago said that I wasn't in the mood to think. Now, here I am, directing your attention to something which is exactly what I wasn't looking for but am so glad I found. Let me start by telling you how I got there. (Dontcha just love it when I don't get straight to the point?) I wandered on over to I Am Bored, which has pages and pages of links to games, such as "Escape 1" [You are stuck on a mysterious island], "Hide the Hotties" [You have to hide hot girls in your room], "Escape the Boogeyman" [Can you get out of the house in time? This one's deliciously creepy!], "One Time Never" [A point and click adventure/mystery game], "The Judge" [Decide if the accused is guilty or innocent] or "Whack Your Boss" [Find all 12 ways to whack your boss].

Anyway, I clicked on their link to "Blue Suburbia," which I Am Bored described as an "odd point and click game in a dark blue world," only to discover that it's not really a game at all. It's more like online, interactive, antiestablishment art. So far, I've just navigated through a fraction of the cool and moody artwork and watched "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," a moving, thought-provoking animated film. But I'm looking forward to discovering whatever else awaits me down this Burton-esque rabbit hole.

The Crimson Room
I was playing The Crimson Room, a mystery/puzzle game on eBaum's World, but it was kind of frustrating because one of the clues points to a website that no longer exists. So if you're trying to solve this game, the memo with the url "http://www.datacraft.co.jp/takagism/rr/history.html" is supposed to lead you to the number "1994". The other puzzle piece that gave me a bit of grief was the thing that is supposed to fall out of the curtain. I must have clicked those damn curtains about 20 times before I got what I needed. There are walkthroughs out there, but I doubt you'll need them as long as you've got the "1994" info. (Though if you want one more hint: don't click the crosshairs until AFTER the movie finishes. I hope that's sufficiently cryptic.)
I also found the prequel and sequel at MilkandCookies.com: The Blue Chamber and The Viridian Room.
Hints for The Blue Chamber:
1. This room was the prequel and is pretty simple, there was only one point that I got stuck on... have you ever noticed that a skull and crossbones looks a little like the star (*) on your phone?
Hints for The Viridian Room (without giving too much away, I hope):
1. Once you fold back the blanket, click lots on the object underneath because one of the things you're trying to find doesn't show up until you click a few times;
2. You can't collect the blanket until you've found everything that you need underneath it;
3. If the trash can refuses to budge, make sure you examine every item in your possession then try again (and after you've examined items, click "try to escape" to get back to the game);
4. The dates in the diary might come in handy;
5. Don't give up after a few blank pages;
6. Apparently hair is for burning.
Enjoy!

Why dontcha head on over to eBaum's World and let off a little steam by blowing up cars and burning the people of Ant City. (And don't forget to target the big tanker when it shows up!)So polish up your giant magnifying glass and start burning... 'tis muchly fun!

Game Geek, Part II
The hints portion of this post has been moved to Spooks' Spy Academy. Please update your bookmarks.
Check out my new game blog: Inner Game Geek!
P.S. I'm very disappointed that Tom Quinn (aka Matthew MacFadyen) is leaving the show, but I did have an idea that it was coming. I inadvertently glanced at the message board on the BBC (where season 3 has already finished) and discovered that some big changes are in the air. If you're the sort of person who reads the end of the book first, then you might be interested in checking out what they're saying over there. On the bright side, Danny and Zoe are still there... for now.
