Tournament Format
The World Cup of Hockey begins with a round-robin schedule, with each team playing the three opponents in its pool. All teams qualify for single-elimination quarterfinal games.

Quarterfinal games are played within each pool, with the first-place team facing the fourth-place team, and the second-place team against the third-place team.

The pools cross over for semi-final games, to be played September 10th in St. Paul and September 11 in Toronto.
