Kristian on Mount Seymour Ki-Un in Chinese characters

My name is Kristian Ki-Un Yen Hansen. I was born in Waterloo, Ontario, on April 16th, 1994. Now I live in Burnaby, British Columbia.

I go to Grade 8 at Burnaby North Secondary School. When the weather is dry, I try to bike to school when my backpack is not full of heavy textbooks, binders and an oboe. My friend, Andy’s dad gives me a ride to school anytime I need it, then I walk home rain or shine, often soaked in the rain with the raincoat stuffed in my backpack. My parents could never understand why I behave so much like a text-book case teenager. They never get it, do they?

I’ve been playing the oboe in band for one year. My Grade 8 band teacher is Mrs. Balchen who is strict but challenges us with great songs to play. Besides my oboe, I am still stuck with the piano because my mom would not let me quit until I am good enough at sight-reading all hymns, preludes, and postludes for being the church organist.

The first semester in high school has been great. Different teachers for different subjects really make every class interesting. I don’t really have more homework, but my parents are often on my case reviewing my binders and putting loose paper into the right binder. They never seem to understand that I can better spend my time reading my novels, comics, building with Lego, and teasing my younger sister and brother.

Being in high school also means that I am old enough to start Confirmation Class in our Danish Lutheran Church. My classmates are quite a mix, most not knowing any story from the Bible at all.

My dad gives me extra math classes. I’m now in a Grade 10 math class. My dad makes us do homework. Since I’m ahead in math, I’m in math 8/9 honours in high school.

When I am finished with my work, and often also before that, I play, I read, and I draw. We draw, scattering pencils and paper throughout the house, and sometimes I just sit down and read. I liked the Harry Potter books, the Warriors series by Erin Hunter, I have great fun reading Donald Duck, in Danish, and several other Danish novels.

If you like, you can send me an e-mail with this form. I’d like to hear from you.
