Several interesting scenes following Darcy's first proposal are missing.
The last walk to Rosings from the parsonage is missing. It is to be Maria Lucas and Elizabeth's last and eleventh visit to the parsonage. Mr. Collins is his usual pompous self and makes a great show of pitying Elizabeth for it will be her last meeting with Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
The morning of their departure, Elizabeth walks in on Maria Lucas repacking her
trunk. Maria explains that Lady Catherine was so severe about the correct way of
packing gowns that she could not sleep last night and was now determined to repack all
her clothes. Elizabeth tells a wide-eyed Maria that "this is her trunk, these
are her gowns" and that "Lady Catherine will never know" how the gowns are folded.
Shortly following Elizabeth's return home, there is a conversation around the Longbourn dining room table. Lydia, Kitty and Mrs. Bennet are trying to persuade Mr. Bennet to bring them all to Brighton. They beg for Elizabeth's support but, instead, she agrees with Mr. Bennet's decision not to visit Brighton since the soldiers are likely to wreak havoc in the family. Lydia dreams of the fun "a whole campful of soldiers" would entail. Lydia and Kitty claim that they will both break their hearts when the regiment leaves and, along with Mrs. Bennet, yearn for sea-bathing at Brighton. After Mr. Bennet leaves the room (unconvinced), Lydia has a modest temper tantrum.
After Lydia tells her mother (in the garden) that she has received an invitation from Mrs. Forster to go to Brighton, she claims that she must be bought new clothes for she has nothing to wear. Her mother agrees that it would not do to have her disgraced in front of "all the officers". The mere thought of meeting all the officers sends Lydia into a rapturous state.
We see Kitty crying after Lydia leaves for Brighton. Mr. Bennet comforts her by saying that she will probably have gotten over the disappointment in a year or two.
During the tour of Derbyshire with her Aunt and Uncle, Elizabeth climbs a steep hill and stands beside a beautifully shaped rock to admire the landscape before her.
