The Story of the Movie

Pride and Prejudice is in six episodes. Each episode is approximately 50 minutes long. The storyline of this romantic comedy revolves around the wonderful Elizabeth Bennet: a witty, clever and captivating twenty-year old. It is set in a time in which one of the main occupations of young women was to find suitable husbands and depicts the trials of several of these young women. Do not think, however, that the Pride and Prejudice is only about people searching for matrimonial partners. It is also a story of first impressions, of vanity, of truth and falsehoods, of re-evaluations, of love and, of course, of unyielding pride and blinding prejudice.

The screenplay, written by Andrew Davies, follows Jane Austen’s original text quite closely (with some liberties here and there). Much of the dialogue in the movie is taken directly from the novel.
