Edson United Church baptises infants, children, youth and adults—people of all ages!
Baptism is the sole rite of initiation into membership in the Christian community. It is not repeated, nor repeatable, although many people choose to renew their baptismal vows at different periods in their lives.
Baptism for infants and young children proclaims the unconditional grace and love of God. It is also a reminder of the wonder, blessing, and new responsibilities that come with a new life.
In the case of adults, baptism is a moving witness to the work of the Spirit in individual and community commitment. It is also a celebration of the promise of new life and growth in faith.
Baptism isn’t “insurance for heaven” and it isn’t just a pretty morning in the church to name your baby. We don’t celebrate a private baptism nor hold private ceremonies. The only time we conduct baptism outside of the sanctuary and public worship is in an emergency when life is threatened.
Requirements:
-In the case of a baby or minor, at least one parent must be baptized and confirmed in the church. We welcome parents who were baptized and confirmed by another church. You will be asked to provide proof of baptism and confirmation prior to the baptism preparation.-If you are neither baptized nor confirmed, or baptized, but not confirmed, don’t worry. We will gladly baptize and confirm you so that you can celebrate the baptism of your child!
-Participating in the 12-week session “Introduction to Christian Faith”.
-As the names of candidates for baptism will be presented to our church council for approval, we ask that you worship with us from time to time so that people can meet you and welcome you into the faith community.
