| Burbank, CA,
April 9, 2004 - Echelon Entertainment will release the film, "Wake,"
in LA & New York theaters on May 28, 2004. In Los Angeles we will
be at the Regent Showcase on La Brea and in NYC at the Quad Cinemas on
13th Street between 5th and Avenue of the Americas.
Trailers are playing at
both theatres.
Sebastian (Oscar Winner Martin Landau) sits hunched over a typewriter,
typing out his demons. As he types, we're transported to a time he has
suppressed, a time when, after years of separation, he and his three
brothers reunite. As their mother lie motionless upstairs, two sets
of brothers with two opposing plans collide: one plan, to end their
mother's suffering, the other, a search for their father's insurance
money.
Kyle ("Queer as Folk's" Gale Harold), the youngest brother,
grapples with his sanity and Sebastian's deadly plan as their two brothers
Raymond, an escaped convict ("General Hospital's" Blake Gibbons)
and his sidekick Jack (John Winthrop Philbrick) descend upon the house
with party girls (Dusty Paik and Rainer Judd), guns and booze. Buttons
are pushed, substances get abused and plans go awry leading, ultimately,
to complete chaos.
At the peak of this emotionally raw and darkly humorous evening, the
games start to intensify and become real. Kyle turns the tables on Raymond
and Jack, beating them at their own game if only for a moment. But it
may be too late. What brings them all back together will tear them apart
as this dysfunctional family reunion soon turns into a wake shaking
the survivors to the core.
"Wake," the writing and directorial debut of Henry LeRoy Finch,
is a performance vehicle in the literary spirit of the great American
playwrights: O'Neill, Albee, and Shepard. Shot entirely on location
in and around Bath, Maine, in a house that was originally built in 1745,
the film has a visual authenticity that is palpable. The closely-knit
relationships forged by Finch and the
ensemble of actors while rehearsing and filming the movie results in
deep, explosive performances and skyrocketing onscreen tension.
Martin Landau's daughter, Susie Landau Finch, produced the film. She
served as Associate Producer on the 1992 version of "Dracula,"
directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
The 2003 1st Annual Queens International Film Festival gave its Queens
Spirit Award for Best Director to Henry LeRoy Finch "for his outstanding
direction" and its Best Actor award to Blake Gibbons.
