Congratulations, Thea! The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) has selected Thea to receive their National Leadership Award.  Presented annually, the National Leadership Award honors those individuals who have been champions of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) rights.  The organization says Thea was chosen for this award in honor of all of her endeavors through her character on "Queer As Folk" to transcend the lines of sexuality.  Specifically, they felt her courageous move to portray an "Out" lesbian, mom, and wife although she lives her real life as a heterosexual, as well as the fact that she plays the role so extremely well lesbians can really identify, made her truly deserving of this recognition.  Thea will accept the award when she and her husband Brian attend the NGLTF's Sunset Deck Party on the afternoon of Sunday, August 24, 2003 in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Variety Magazine is reporting that Queer as Folk has landed a two-year renewal, encompassing 32 hourlong episodes. The cost of the series will inch up closer to $1.5 million an episode, and Showtime's license fee will cover about 80% of the budget. Warner Bros. TV, which distributes "Queer as Folk" outside the United States and Canada, will finance the rest of the production cost. The current season of Queer as Folk wraps up June 16, and the new episodes kick off in March 2003. The series will stay in its Sunday-at-10-p.m. slot. Offsay added Showtime is commissioning only 16 hours a season instead of the 21 it greenlit for each of the first two seasons, to give the cast members extra time off to do movies and guest shots in episodes of other TV series.
