Jan 20 2001 Race Results

January 20, 2001, Well the 2000 - 2001 season "officially" kicked off, at least for the racing, here at Aspen Heights for the first race of the new season. 32 of our racers registered for the race, and we had some great placings to open the season. The 6 and under girls was dominated by Hardisty girls, and we placed 1,2,4 and 5th. Kylie and Justine turned in GREAT times taking the top two spots. And although Stephanie and Megan had slower times, it was still great to see the young girls doing great and having a good time! The 6 and under boys were all from Hardisty, so we obviously too all the placings. Ryan really turned in a very quick time, and Reid was right behind! We also had 8 of the 14 7 & 8 girls with Jill taking a second, Cassie taking third, and Megan taking sixth! Great stuff girls, and good work too to Andrea, Alicia, Becky, Michelle and Kendra! We had 4 of 10 in the 7 & 8 boys, with James taking home yet another second, and Jeremy placing in 5th!Great to see the two Aarons giving it their all too! In the 9 & 10 girls, 6 of the 15 racers were Hardisty skiers. Mackenzie took home a fine third, and Ali just missed the top 6, placing in 7th by just a small margin. Also, good stuff goes out to Lauren, Crystal, Stacy, and Jackie. Keep up all the hard work girls, it really does pay off!! We only had two of the 9 & 10 boys, but Ryan did place, taking home a 5th. Evan gave it a great try, but came up a little short, but only by a very small amount!! Our three 11 & 12 girls did fine too, with Stevie coming in third, Jill in fourth, and Latisha coming in 5th. We only had one other racer, Rochelle, taking home second in the 13 & 14 girls. Another cool thing about this race. We had 28 event card racers from the city clubs come down. The were representing Snow Valley, Sunridge, and Edmonton Ski Club. The kids really thought it was great watching these kids do their thing, and I really think it gives them something to aspire to also! I think too, in that they seemed to love the race, it really helps give credibility to our program, and shows how the hard work that everyone has put into in the club is being noticed by other places. Who knows what the future might bring to our racers now, with the two way exposure the kids got.

Thanks TONS to Coach Don for taking the pictures. Unfortunately this season I have other more pressing engagements (we are adopting a little girl/future racer!) and was not able to make it for the race, since we were visiting with her at her home down south.
