Racing Results
March 19, 2000. Oooooook...Seems march 11 wasn't our last race after all. The team received an invitation to the Lauberhorn race held at Rabbit Hill this past weekend.
Well the HSBC sure isn't about to back down from something like this! Just kidding, although we did go with 10 racers. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
With 208 racers arriving in the early hours of Sunday, the day was long, and at times a little hectic. And a very different format. A single training run, followed by a single timed run.
Certainly no room for errors there!! But all in all, we fared very well, and everyone looked like they had a great time!! I could see quite a few tired dudes late in the afternoon, though.
So after the one training run, it was time to start the festivities. Pretty cool, they had Karen Percy, Ken Read, along with other National Junior and Disabled Team racers for the opening
ceremonies. The Giz and Rio Wells, from the Edmonton Eskimos, were there, a few TV personalities, and such. Anyway, adding to the experience, Jill was one of the racer fore-runners,
which everyone thought was major cool! The race itself went off great, and we had a number of good results. Kylie again took home a ribbon along with Justine (her first!!). The look on
Braedons's face when his name was called for his ribbon was priceless!! Awesome, Braedon!! It was terrific to see Alyssa and Stacey up there receiving their ribbons too! And of course,
Mackenzie!! Well, not to diminish the hard work by all our racers, and the super results they received. But Way to go Mackenzie!! She came home with the GOLD in her class!! And ya gotta
remember, this is a new club, racing against strong established big city clubs!! I personally think that her performance was nothing short of spectacular!! I was at the "C" turn cheeering
them all on, and was able to watch her for a large part of her run. It was great, a nice tight tuck, clean edges. A outstanding run!! But as I said, all our kids did fantastic and all deserve
HUGE congratulations!! One other cool thing, well for us older folks anyway. Ken Read was the presenter for the medals and ribbons!! He even brought his real trophy that he won at the real
Lauberhorn back in the 70's. Major cool!!! Now I think that the season is for sure over now. [I really do think so, this time!! :-) ] So again, thanks to everyone on the team, all the parents,
coaches, and of course the racers!! Here's looking to next year!!!
