About
Southgate Alliance
Southgate Alliance Church is a church that offers
inspiring services, great programs for children, teens and adults, helpful support
groups and positive encouraging messages. We are happy to welcome newcomers
and visitors to our church. In fact, the ongoing addition of newcomers to
Southgate Alliance is part of what makes our church a special place. If you
are new, you can feel “right at home” because welcoming new people is a
normal part of church life here. Our commitment is to let you check us out
at your own pace. We will not be on your doorstep trying to sign you up for
anything after your visit. We offer a friendly, encouraging environment to
help you make progress in your spiritual journey.
What is an “Alliance” church?
The word “Alliance" is used to describe our church
because of the number of people who attend from a variety of backgrounds
and traditions. There are more than 400 Alliance churches in canada. They
support more than 1,200 international workers involved in education,
disaster and relief work, church growth and medical work worldwide. The
central teaching of Alliance churches is that Jesus Christ is able to meet
the needs of every person.
What about my spiritual journey?
It is amazing how much time, money and effort goes into
the physical, intellectual and relational journeys of life with little
regard for the spiritual. Yet progress in our spiritual journey positively
influences life’s other journeys. Our church exists to help you make
progress in your spiritual journey.
What can I expect?
Our services are informal in style. You do not have to
“know the routine” in advance. You do not have to get all dressed up
(unless you really want to). Most services last about an hour and feature
lively singing with a worship band, musical presentations, short dramas,
children’s features and news about upcoming events. One of our pastoral
staff will present a practical, encouraging message. Our goal is to have
our sunday services fresh and interesting!
If you would like to, after each service there is someone available to
talk, pray and encourage you in your spiritual journey.
Do I have to give money?
At Southgate we let newcomers know they do not need to
feel any obligation to give money to our church. If you decide to make
southgate your church home, then we would appreciate your help to support
our church.
Who goes to Southgate?
Our church family consists of people from all age
groups. The make up of our church family pretty much reflects the
demographics of our community – a mix of families with pre-school and
school age children, youth and seniors. We are everyday folks from all
walks of life. Attendance on sunday morning averages about 340 people, but
there are some 500 folks who call Southgate alliance home!
What about children during the
service?
There is a fully staffed nursery that provides loving
care for babies and toddlers up to age 2 years during the service. For
peace of mind, we provide a pager for parents in case we need to reach
them.
Children ages 2 to 4 years are invited to join wee
worship, which is a fun class with stories, activities and crafts.
Children remaining in the service will receive an
activity page.
We also offer age appropriate sunday school programs that are fun and
exciting from 9:15-10:15am. For more information, please see our Children’s Ministries page.
