Odd/even Coins
What are the missing numbers:
- 2; 4; 6; 8; 10; __; __; __
- 5; 10; 15; 20; __; __; __
- 2; 7; 12; 17; __; __; __
- 3; 5; 8; 12; 17; __; __; __
- 13; 16; 10; 13; 7; __; __; __
-
-
And the answers are:
- 2; 4; 6; 8; 10; 12; 14; 16
- 5; 10; 15; 20; 12; 14; 16
- 2; 7; 12; 17; 12; 14; 16
- 3; 5; 8; 12; 17; 12; 14; 16
- 13; 16; 10; 13; 7; 12; 14; 16
Now you have the patterns and relations sequenced in your mind, let's do
something different with patterns and relations.
Odd/even Coins
- Say to someone to put any number of coins in their hand
- Ask them to count the coins to themselves and not tell you
- Then suggest to them, that because you are psychic, clairvoyant
or downright brilliant (whatever you choose!!),
you will change the number in their hand
by adding to their sum, a number of coins you
pull from your pocket.
- Check with them to make sure they agree that it will change
the number of coins in their hand.
Well, of course it will change the number of coins.
- Better still, you, by careful selection of your number of
coins, can change their number from odd to even or from even
to odd. If it is even then by adding yours you would change
it to odd or if their number is odd to even without
knowing their number.
- How many would you need to pull from your pocket to make
it work without knowing their number.
- Could the same be done for subtraction, multiplication,
division, . . . ?
- Email me
with other ideas where this type of pattern occurs.
