Although this site was done as part of a course requirement,
it has been designed to assist learners of all levels. After
the course is over the site will continue to exist at the request
of my adult students who range from innumerate to algebraic.
The site (I hope) can assist the non-mathematician become
involved in math. I believe:
- There is such a thing as math anxiety and it may be that
math is feared because it is usually taught
as a subject to do
and not something we are immersed in. In contrast,
we don't tend to be anxious about reading
since it is all around us.
- There are very few young children that ask
(or beg) to be taught math. (Actually my son is creating
concern at kindergarten because he wants to be taught
how to multiply).
- There are very few families that do math problems
before bed, but society definitely advocates
bedtime reading.
These pages are for learners whether they spend the time thinking
about the activitiea or use them with other people.
Please use the activities as you see fit while you follow traditional
use rules of usage and please inform
me of other ideas.
