Doing the bonus below may help.
Bonus - Multiplication by nine using your fingers
- Place you hands palm down on the table in front of you
- Label your fingers from left to right 1 to 10
- To multiply 9 x 4
- Fold the fourth finger (pointer of left hand) under you hand
- Now, fingers up and to the left of the "folded finger"
are worth tens, so that's 3 x10 or 30
- Now, fingers up and to the right of the "folded finger"
are counted as ones, so there are 6
- So the result is 9 x 4 = 36
- Try other numbers, it works for the nine times table from
9 x 1 up to 9 x 10.
